Novell's Open Enterprise Server (OES) is Novell's next generation Netware solution offering network services such as file, print, storage and client machine management combined with the advantage of Suse Linux Enterprise Server. In todays IT enviroment many companies face the challenge of controlling infrastructure costs and managing mixed IT environments. OES is ideally suited to address these needs at an affordable cost.

While reading up on other Linux migration stories I came across this you-tube video. It's the same story being repeat, again and again all over the world. As always the company followed a phased roll-out of its migration from proprietary solutions to Linux.

During these hard economic times, companies all over the world are looking at ways of cutting costs to survive the lean months ahead. One of the glaringly obvious areas for cost cutting is licensing costs, but the dilemma faced by many is that the services and applications covered by these licenses  are necessary for the running of their business. In searching for a solution many CIOs are now seriously starting to look at open source solutions.

Today I attended the Novell and Microsoft Interoperability presentation at Summer Place in Johannesburg. Although there was nothing really new for me here, since we been using virtualisation for  over two years already, it was interesting to see a Microsoft representative talking about Linux.
